Cala Millor is exactly what its name promises: *the better bay*. Two kilometers of an almost perfectly straight, golden-yellow beach, backed by a wide, palm-lined promenade with restaurants, ice cream parlors, and gentle surf. In summer, the water takes on a shade of turquoise that impresses even visitors to the Caribbean. If you're looking for a relaxed sand-and-sun holiday on Mallorca without the hustle and bustle of Magaluf or Playa de Palma, you can't miss Cala Millor.

The bay is located on the island's east coast in the municipality of Son Servera, about 60 minutes from Palma airport. It has been an established holiday destination since the 1970s and has quietly modernized over the last decade: old hotels have been completely renovated, the promenade has been redesigned, and many beach bars and restaurants have younger, more ambitious owners. Cala Millor feels significantly more mature today than it did a decade ago.

    🌊 The Beach

At almost 1.8 kilometers long and 35 meters wide, Cala Millor offers enough space to find room for your towel even in August. The sand is fine and light golden-yellow, the water slopes gently and remains only waist-deep even 50 meters out. This makes it one of the most family-friendly beaches on the island: ideal for children, safe for swimming, and with ample lifeguard coverage.

Pine-covered rocky headlands frame the bay at both ends. To the north, a small headland separates Cala Millor from the narrower Cala Bona; to the south, it transitions seamlessly into the quieter S'Illot. Both are a 20–30 minute walk along the coastal promenade and are well worth a day trip.

    🏖️ Nearby Beaches

Cala Millor is a perfect base for exploring the coves of eastern Mallorca:

    - Cala Agulla – 20 min. north, a kilometer-long natural beach with a pine forest, one of the most beautiful on the island.
    - Cala Varques – 40 min. south, a secret natural beach accessible only by a 15-minute walk. No restaurant, no Wi-Fi, just sand.
    - Cala Mondragó – 50 min. south, a nature reserve with two coves, turquoise water, a classic Mallorca postcard scene.
    - Caló des Moro – 60 min. south, a tiny insider-tip beach between cliffs, get there early!

    🚣 Water Sports

Along the main promenade, there are several established providers for stand-up paddling, kayaking, banana boating, parasailing, and small motorboat rentals. For those who want more, Cala Millor is one of the most relaxed entry points into Mallorca's diving and snorkeling scene, as the water remains clear and the rocky sections on either side of the bay offer exciting underwater worlds. Dive schools are located in Cala Bona.

The most beautiful piece of nature in the area is right on the doorstep: The Punta de N'Amer nature reserve between Cala Millor and Sa Coma is a 200-hectare pine forest on a peninsula jutting into the sea, with old fortress ruins, hiking trails, and coves. The two-hour circular trail to the Castell de N'Amer (a 17th-century watchtower) is easy and also suitable for families. Once at the top, you'll find a panoramic view over the bay and the open Mediterranean Sea.

🍽️ Where to Eat in Cala Millor?

The promenade is full of international tourist fare. For those who want to eat authentically, you should venture a few steps further:

    - Es Molí d'En Bou *(in Sa Coma, 5 min.)* – a modern Mallorcan restaurant with a Michelin star, located in a former windmill.
    - Restaurant Sa Pedra *(Cala Bona)* – fresh fish right at the harbor, simple menu, a local favorite.
    - Bar Restaurant S'Illot – traditional Pa amb oli and tapas, perfect for a long lunch.
    - Pizzeria Capricciosa – a family pizzeria with a wood-fired oven, honest and good.

To completely escape the hustle and bustle of the main promenade, drive 20 minutes inland to the small town of Son Servera and eat in one of the village squares – not a tourist in sight.

    🏨 Hotels in Cala Millor

The bay has evolved from a classic all-inclusive destination to a more diverse offering. From family-friendly 4-star resorts to stylish boutique hotels, everything is represented. Those looking for a base for island tours will find a truly elegant setup with a spa and proximity to the beach at the nearby Park Hyatt Mallorca in Canyamel.

    🚲 Bike Tours

Mallorca is one of Europe's best road cycling destinations, and the east coast around Cala Millor is among the most popular training regions for professionals (Tim Wellens, Lotte Kopecky, and others come here regularly). Casual cyclists will also find plenty to enjoy: the tour along the coast to Capdepera (25 km round trip, almost flat) is a classic. It's best to rent bikes in Sa Coma.

🗓️ Best Time to Visit Cala Millor

    - May–June: Hotels open, the beach is still quiet, water temperature 20–22 °C.
    - July–August: High season, everything is open, air temperature 28–30 °C, water 25–26 °C.
    - September: Our favorite. The water is warmer than in July (26–27 °C), fewer crowds, lower prices.
    - October: The last days of summer, many hotels close mid-month. However: ideal for hiking and cycling.
    - November–April: Cala Millor is dormant – most hotels are closed.

    - 🎯 Caves of Drac (Coves del Drac): 30 min. south in Porto Cristo, one of Mallorca's natural wonders with an underground lake.
    - 🎯 Cap de Formentor: A 2-hour drive, worth a day trip to the spectacular northern tip.
    - 🎯 Avoid Sunday traffic: The drive back to the airport on Saturday or Sunday mornings often has traffic jams – leave early.
