Punta Rata in Brela has been voted among the top 10 most beautiful beaches in Europe — a pine-shaded stretch of white pebbles and sand where crystal-clear Adriatic water meets the dramatic backdrop of the Biokovo mountain range rising 1,762 meters directly from the sea. The beach's signature landmark is Brela Stone (Kamen Brela), a small pine-topped rock just offshore that has become one of Croatia's most photographed natural icons — Forbes magazine once named it among the most beautiful rocks in the world. The Makarska Riviera, where Brela sits, is the sunniest stretch of the Croatian coast with over 2,700 sunshine hours per year. "Look, the beach itself is gorgeous and I'd come back. But — be honest about what to expect. The sunbeds are expensive in season, the nearest decent restaurant is a 10-minute walk and on weekends locals (rightly) take the best spots early. Go on a Tuesday in June and you'll think you've found paradise."
