Maya Bay werd wereldberoemd als opnamelocatie voor de film 'The Beach' (2000), maar deze prachtige baai op het onbewoonde Phi Phi Leh werd al lang daarvoor als het paradijs beschouwd. Bijna volledig omsloten door 100 meter hoge kalkstenen kliffen begroeid met tropische vegetatie, vormt de baai een natuurlijk amfitheater met smaragdgroen water. Na een vierjarige sluiting voor ecologisch herstel (2018–2022) is het koraal aanzienlijk hersteld en zijn zwartpuntrifhaaien teruggekeerd.
Bezoekersaantallen zijn nu strikt beperkt, wat zorgt voor een veel puurdere ervaring. De baai ligt op het oosten, wat de vroege ochtend — wanneer de eerste zonnestralen tussen de kliffen door dringen — het meest magische moment maakt.

"We've been to a lot of beaches across the Med and Maya Bay sits comfortably in our top five. The sand is properly soft (not the gritty stuff you get further east), the water shelves gently for the first 30 metres, and the small reef at the headland makes for legitimately good snorkelling. Only minor gripe: the walk down from the parking is steep — fine going, less fun coming back up with kids and a cooler."
