La spiaggia di Belle Mare si distende lungo la costa orientale di Mauritius in una lunga distesa di sabbia chiara, delimitata da alberi di casuarina e da una laguna che sfuma dall'acquamarina traslucida al turchese intenso. Il litorale appare ampio e sereno, soprattutto nella luce soffusa del mattino, quando l'orizzonte rivolto a est accoglie l'alba e le barche da pesca riposano oltre i bassi fondali.
Protetta in alcuni tratti dalla barriera corallina al largo dell'isola, la laguna è generalmente invitante per nuotare e fare snorkeling, anche se le condizioni variano con il vento, le maree e la stagione. La costa orientale è naturalmente più ventilata di quella occidentale, rendendo i mesi più caldi interessanti per il windsurf e il kitesurf. Le escursioni in barca possono condurre agli isolotti vicini, ai siti della barriera corallina e alle cascate nei dintorni di Grande Rivière Sud-Est, mentre nella zona circostante è possibile praticare il golf su prestigiosi campi costieri.
Belle Mare è incorniciata da eleganti resort, ma i punti di accesso pubblico ne preservano il carattere aperto e rilassato. Alcuni tratti offrono lettini e strutture per gli sport acquatici tramite gli hotel, mentre le sezioni più tranquille rimangono semplici e splendidamente non edificate. Nei pressi degli accessi più frequentati si possono trovare venditori locali, ma i servizi non sono presenti lungo tutta la spiaggia, quindi è prudente portare con sé acqua e protezione solare.
Il periodo più confortevole coincide generalmente con i mesi più secchi e freschi di Mauritius, da maggio a ottobre. Da novembre ad aprile il mare è più caldo e il paesaggio rigoglioso, ma aumentano l'umidità e le precipitazioni e sono possibili perturbazioni tropicali. "We've been to a lot of beaches across the Med and Belle Mare Beach sits comfortably in our top five. The sand is properly soft (not the gritty stuff you get further east), the water shelves gently for the first 30 metres, and the small reef at the headland makes for legitimately good snorkelling. Only minor gripe: the walk down from the parking is steep — fine going, less fun coming back up with kids and a cooler."

Belle Mare Beach lies on the east coast of Mauritius, beside the village of Belle Mare in the Flacq District. It is approximately an hour’s drive from the international airport, depending on traffic.
May to October usually brings drier, cooler weather and comfortable beach conditions. November to April is warmer and more humid, with a higher chance of rain and occasional tropical weather systems.
The lagoon is often calm and shallow in reef-protected sections, making it appealing for swimming. Conditions can change with wind, currents and tides, so observe local guidance and avoid entering rough water.
