"We've been to a lot of beaches across the Med and Belle Mare Beach sits comfortably in our top five. The sand is properly soft (not the gritty stuff you get further east), the water shelves gently for the first 30 metres, and the small reef at the headland makes for legitimately good snorkelling. Only minor gripe: the walk down from the parking is steep — fine going, less fun coming back up with kids and a cooler."

Belle Mare Beach lies on the east coast of Mauritius, beside the village of Belle Mare in the Flacq District. It is approximately an hour’s drive from the international airport, depending on traffic.
May to October usually brings drier, cooler weather and comfortable beach conditions. November to April is warmer and more humid, with a higher chance of rain and occasional tropical weather systems.
The lagoon is often calm and shallow in reef-protected sections, making it appealing for swimming. Conditions can change with wind, currents and tides, so observe local guidance and avoid entering rough water.
Yes. Snorkelling is possible in the lagoon, although coral and marine life are more abundant at selected reef sites reached by boat. Reef-safe sun protection and water shoes are useful.
Mauritian beaches are public up to the high-water mark, and Belle Mare has several public access points. Hotel facilities such as loungers, restaurants and water-sports equipment are generally reserved for guests or available by prior arrangement.
