    Acerca de

Sarakiniko on the volcanic island of Milos is unlike any other beach on Earth — its lunar landscape of brilliant white volcanic rock formations sculpted by wind and waves into surreal shapes creates a scene that looks more like the surface of the moon than a Greek island. The smooth white volcanic tuff contrasts dramatically with the deep blue Aegean Sea, creating one of the most photographed natural sites in Greece. A narrow channel of crystal-clear turquoise water cuts between the white rock walls, forming a natural swimming pool that's perfect for cliff jumping.

The area was named after Saracen pirates who once sheltered in these coves. There's a small sea cave and an abandoned shipwreck nearby that add to the otherworldly atmosphere. Arrive early morning or late afternoon for the best light and fewer crowds — by midday the white rocks can become blindingly bright and scorching hot.

No shade exists naturally, so bring protection.

"Look, the beach itself is gorgeous and I'd come back. But — be honest about what to expect. The sunbeds are expensive in season, the nearest decent restaurant is a 10-minute walk and on weekends locals (rightly) take the best spots early. Go on a Tuesday in June and you'll think you've found paradise."
