"Took the kids (6 and 9) — shallow entry, no big waves, exactly what we needed. Renting two loungers was around €25 which felt steep but we did it anyway."

Cala Pregonda, perched on Menorca’s raw northern flank in the municipality of Es Mercadal, presents a startling palette: a strip of ochre‑ginger sand that gleams like powdered copper, set against low, dark, volcanic‑looking islets that punctuate an astonishingly clear, turquoise sea. The cove sits within Menorca’s UNESCO biosphere reserve, bordered by windswept maquis and low pines that scent the air with resin and thyme. There are no services here—no cafés or lifeguards—only a sun‑bleached footpath and a 30‑minute coastal walk from the tiny hamlet of Binimel·là.
Shallow shelves, submerged rock plates and calm inlets make it a swimmer's and snorkeller’s paradise when conditions allow; on windier days the exposed north swell sculpts dramatic surf along the headlands. Photographers favour the warm, sculpted light of golden hour; day‑trippers come for crystalline visibility, solitude and the rare feeling of a beach scarcely altered by human presence. Bring water, sun protection and sturdy shoes for the approach.

Cala Pregonda is defined by its ochre‑red sand and small, dark volcanic‑looking islets rising from crystalline turquoise water. Set within Menorca’s UNESCO biosphere reserve and reached only by a roughly 30‑minute coastal walk from Binimel·là, it offers dramatic geology, extraordinary water clarity and an unusually unserviced, tranquil atmosphere.
Late spring through early autumn (May–October) provides the warmest sea and best light. July–August often bring the calmest seas but more visitors; dawn and late afternoon are the most sheltered and most rewarding for solitude and photography. Off‑peak months deliver cooler air and quieter coves.
Make for the hamlet of Binimel·là (Es Mercadal) by car or transfer and follow the marked coastal footpath: a roughly 30‑minute walk over uneven, sun‑exposed terrain. There is no road access to the cove itself and parking near Binimel·là is limited; wear sturdy shoes and carry ample water and sun protection.
There are no facilities at Cala Pregonda—no cafés, toilets or lifeguards—and mobile reception can be intermittent. Visitors should bring water, shade, snacks and a small first‑aid kit. Monitor wind and swell; the north coast can become choppy and currents stronger on exposed days.
Waters are exceptionally clear with shallow reefs, sandy shelves and submerged rock plates that reveal abundant underwater texture. Snorkelling is excellent when the sea is calm; wear water shoes for rocky shallows and avoid venturing far from shore if the north swell or wind increases.
The cove suits walkers, confident swimmers and photographers who prize solitude and raw coastal scenery over amenities. Families with very young children should plan carefully because of the walk and lack of services; travellers wanting full accessibility or curated services will prefer other Menorcan beaches.
