Agios Prokopios on Naxos is regularly voted the best beach in the Cyclades — a 1.5-kilometer stretch of golden sand gently curving along a sheltered bay of warm, shallow turquoise water. Unlike the volcanic black or pebble beaches found on neighboring Cycladic islands, Naxos boasts genuine golden sand beaches, and Agios Prokopios is the finest of them all.
The beach faces west, delivering spectacular sunsets over the Aegean Sea with the silhouettes of Paros and Antiparos on the horizon. The shallow, crystal-clear water extends far out, making it incredibly safe for families. Behind the beach, the fertile Naxos interior produces excellent local cheese (graviera), potatoes, and kitron — a unique citron liqueur that's been produced on the island since the 17th century.
Naxos town, with its Venetian Kastro fortress and the iconic Portara (Apollo's Temple gateway), is just a 10-minute drive away. Beach bars and tavernas line the shore without overwhelming the natural setting.
